OTHER STUFF YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT RIFLE SCOPES

AND

SURE KILL ACCURACY

Your rifle calibre and the expected range of your quarry/target will determine at what range you should zero your scope. You know the approximate range, where and what you intend to hunt. It would be a bit silly to zero your scope in at 50 yards and try and hit a target at 300 yards.

There are many things that affect where the bullet strikes. Something you will need to keep in mind is that the moment your bullet leaves your rifle, gravity will have an effect in varying degrees.....no matter what the calibre. For instance 22LR bullet drops approximately 3" in 100yards.

There are other things that effect the flight of your projectile, air density and the shape of the bullet temperature etc etc. Mmmm.....Ballistics is another story but definitely worth trying to understand.

WINDAGE AND ELEVATION ADJUSTMENT

Not all optics....but most rifle scopes have a click value of ¼" at 100 yards so if you need to shift the impact or strike point by 1" at a target 100 yards away, then you will need 4 clicks of your adjustment screw.

The windage and elevation adjustment on your rifle scope can assist you in zeroing in your scope because each click represents an amount of movement or adjustment of bullet strike at a certain distance.

If your target is set at 25 yards then you will need 12 clicks of adjustment to move the strike one inch. Inches of movement per click of adjustment on your rifle scope: 50 yards=1/8, 100yards=1/4", 200 yards =1/2", 300 yards= 3/4". MOA = minute of angle. This is the term shooters use as bench mark for accuracy.

Maths... and the following are not exact, but are well within the spirit of what we need to comprehend. A minute of angle, 1 MOA= 1" at 100 yards, 2" at 200 yards and so on. So when we have grouped our shots in the centre of a 100 yard target, then we can now say, I can shoot 1 MOA meaning we are hitting the target at 100 yards and each shot is hitting the target with an inch of each other.

By understanding all the different aspects of our chosen sport we now know how to achieve accuracy with optics that gives us..... spine tingling sure kill accuracy. We take one Shot. We get one clean Kill. Practise...... Practise....... Practise and get to know your gear like a true professional.
